Team PROACTION have great success in Peterborough

Another fantastic medal haul for our guys form ProAction Martial Arts..........

PROACTION Martial Arts Competitors didn’t have too long after their success at the Irish National Taekwon-Do Open on 5th & 6th February - they were back in action at the Peterborough Freestyle Open on 13th February.

The Peterborough Freestyle Open attracts competitors from all over the UK, with various martial arts disciplines present, including Taekwon-Do, Kickboxing, Tang-Soo-Do, Kung-Fu, MMA and much more.  This was the first time the PROACTION team had attended, and the 9 person team didn’t disappoint!

George Hill was suffering with bruising from his Bronze medal performances in Ireland only one week earlier, but was up first in Traditional Forms, receiving another Bronze.  This seemed to spur him on to better things, using his experience from the previous week he defeated the opposition with ease to take the Gold in Point stop sparring.  George then also progressed well in the Continuous sparring but was beaten in to Silver medal position by his team mate Harvey Russell, who had decided to specialise in continuous sparring only, and at his first competition came home with a convincing winning victory.  That was 4 medals already in the bag for Team PROACTION and one of each colour for George HIll.

Terrell Claxton-Holton had missed a week from training following his exploits in Ireland, but there was no keeping him away from competition.  He did seem a little slower out the blocks this weekend though, and despite his best efforts, couldn’t capitalise further in the medal stakes.  Good friend and team mate Kyle Patel appeared to have more energy than ever after Ireland, and convincingly took the Gold in Point stop, scoring 4 head kicks in a row in the semi-finals.  Kyle then also went on to gain a Bronze in Continuous sparring.

Up next was the adult divisions, and with a strong team PROACTION were expecting to do well.  Unfortunately Naz Vorontsov received too many warnings in his second bout, and so was out of the medals, and Dipan Patel led all the way through his round, only to lose in the dying seconds.  This left the three competitors who represented in Ireland only one week earlier.

First up, Bex Timms dominated the lady’s heavy sparring division, taking Gold convincingly.  Tony Hill was up next, and fought extremely well with his trade mark speed to take the Men’s over 75Kg title for continuous.  Then the performance of the day came from Pritesh Patel, who seemed to have the organisers pitting against him!  He was called for the under 75KG point stop, and continuous sparring divisions at the same time!  He didn’t hold back and fought two semi finals (one in each division) and 2 finals (one in each division) 4X2 minute rounds, back to back with no rest, other than to change to the appropriate gloves between rings, taking home the Silver medal in the point stop, after throwing away the final point in the dying seconds, and the Gold in continuous, winning the final by a clear mile.

PROACTION finished the day with a fantastic 5 Bronze, 2 Silver and 5 Gold, from just nine competitors.
